Girona is a very beautiful and discreet city. It is said that Girona (Gironès in Catalan), would be the first city of Spain for its quality of life. The old districts of the right bank of Onyar are magnificent. Girona deserves its nickname “the city of thousand seats” as it was besieged thirteen times from 1295 till 1809. It would also be appropriate to give the city the name of “three times immortal” as it resisted to the troops of Napoleon three times.
As the capital of the north of Catalonia, Gerona is a manageable city; pleasant to visit, full of surprises and full of cultural wealth. Being a tourist area, you will find numerous hotels in Girona (hôtel à Gérone), something that will make planning your stay very easy.

Santa Maria Cathedral

The cathedral is in the heart of the city and is one of the main attractions of Girona. The particularity of this cathedral is that it has the widest Gothic nave in the world. To reach it however, you’ll need to climb the 90 stairs dating back to the XVIIth century, created in the purest baroque style. The architecture of the cathedral is quite varied and contains elements of Romanic, Gothic and baroque style which makes the building a real work of art. The inside of the cathedral abounds in magnificent art and notably shelters two museums where you can admire the carpet of the creation and other works of art.

The Jewish district
Call is one of the biggest Jewish districts of Europe and is without a doubt the best preserved. It integrates the ‘Centre Bonastruc ça Porta’ and reflects the architecture as well as the town planning of the city. Call Jueu is a mix of medieval Jewish streets of Barri Vell. Here you will find the ancient synagogue, today transformed into a wing of the University of Girona. In the North of Call, you will be able to see ´Montjuïc’ (” the Jewish mountain “); a must see for any trip to the city.

Girona is thus a pleasant city where you can relax or participate in one of the many cultural activities. Most of the tourist attractions are situated in a concentrated area and so you will find numerous apartments in Girona (Apartament Gérone) without any problem at all.
