Strange ways to improve Iowa tourism

One thing that I would like to do is to increase Iowa tourism. Now I have many, many ideas as how to do that, some good and some not so good. If we could come up with a product that everyone would want or need and then sell that product only in Des Moines then people from all over the nation would have to travel to our state to get it. Of course that would mean many overnight stays and lots of meals consumed in local restaurants. The only problem is that I can’t come up with a product that would fit that description. As a matter of fact, Iowa is better at exporting its’ goods than at selling products in state. Another idea I had was to make a mandatory detour along the interstates. This would take people off the highway and run them right beside different restaurants and hotels. This detour would change location from time to time so that different attractions could be highlighted. This would also have the benefit of allowing the road crews to actually fix the highways without worrying about traffic. A win – win for both sides, they get safety and I get tourism dollars.
