Just How Does Hypnosis Work?
May 5, 2008 by MrHowTo
Hypnosis comes from the Greek, meaning the state of sleep. This is actually misleading because even though hypnosis is referred to as somnambulism, and resembles deep sleep, hypnosis is actually a state of heightened awareness.
Hypnosis dates back to the Egyptians and Greeks, and it is very likely that it was understood and used by many primitive tribes. The tribal dances of the native American Indian was a kind of hypnosis that brought the Indian braves into a state of frenzy.
While there are various theories of how hypnosis works most authorities subscribe to the theory that likens hypnosis to a special state of relaxation wherein the unconscious is capable of being programmed.
All hypnosis is basically self-hypnosis in that in order to be hypnotized we must allow it to happen. A person cannot be hypnotized if they do not allow themselves to be hypnotized. The hypnotic process is very simple in that the technique can be taught to anyone in a short space of time.
