Watering Skiing Equipment

Water skiing is a fun and exciting sport that is increasing its popularity.  It takes some practice and some time to become good at this sport.  One important thing to remember is having the correct water skiing equipment is just as important as knowing how to water ski.

There are four different types of water skis that you can buy.  The two most commonly used skis is the combination and the slalom skis.  Combination pairs are the most common form of water ski and the easiest to start with.  They have a wider tip for better control from anyone like beginners to the more advanced skier.

Slalom skis are used when you want to ski with only one ski.  I know that sounds scary, however, increasingly people are trying it.  Slalom skis are great for making sharp turns and getting the higher speeds.  The recreational ski has a wider tail and a flatter bottom to make it easier to get up and ride straight.  Advanced skis have a more tapered tail with beveled edges and a tunnel bottom.  These may be a harder to ride, but you will go a lot faster with them.

There is something called trick water skis and these are used for the more promiscuous skier.  Trick skis are for jumping, spinning, and doing tricks.  These are shorter and wider and require a more advanced skill with the skies.  These have no fins which  means that they are more difficult to control but easier to turn and slide.  Jump skies are made from those who want to jump off of ramps.  They look like the old fashioned skies, but have a high tech composite construction for a stronger ski.

When you water ski, you will need a water ski rope.  These ropes are elastic and are able to give with the skier as they change speeds and go around turns.  The standard rope length is 70 including the handle.  Ropes are made of polypropylene and will stretch two to three percent of their length with normal conditions.

The handle on the rope is very important to a skier and everyone has his or her own preference.  There are recreational water ski handles that have a rubber or plastic grip.  The molded grip may or may not have anything inside of it to provide strength and durability.  This handle will float because it is molded.    Higher performance handles are used around an aluminum bar that has a comfortable rubber molded onto it.  The construction is lighter, but more durable and comfortable that a molded handle.  Higher performance handles are hollow which will allow them to sink when dropped in the water.

There are special glasses that you should wear while water skiing, especially if someone wears eyeglasses and cannot see without them while water skiing.  Wearing protective glasses will protect your eyes and reduces injuries that can occur with regular glasses, especially when the skier falls face down in the water.  This is why is smart to buy the protective eye wear.
